Each autumn, Lund University makes available a number of tuition-free exchange student seats at the University of California (UC), through the University of California Education Abroad Program, Sweden (UCEAP Sweden).

When to apply for an exchange at the University of California

The previous application round was open 15 October–1 November 2018 and was for the academic year of 2019–2020.

The next application round will occur in October 2019 for exchange studies 2020–2021. You may refer to last year’s application instructions and documents for reference on how to apply in the next round.

About the University of California exchange programme

The Lund University exchange programme with University of California has been in existence since the mid-1960s. It is Lund University's very first and longest running exchange programme. It is also the exchange programme that receives the most applications and is the largest exchange programme for Lund University in terms of the number of students participating each year.

Lund University students returning from an exchange at UC are, without exception, always very satisfied with their UC stays. We therefore encourage you to apply if you meet the eligibility requirements (see section below for detailed information) and have an interest in studying at UC.

Note! This exchange programme is not intended for Master's programme students/students at the Master's level.?

Eligibility requirements

The Lund University exchange programme with University of California is intended for Bachelor’s degree students/students at the Bachelor’s level.

You are eligible to apply if you:

  • at the time of application have completed a minimum of 30 Lund University/higher education credits at the undergraduate level (grundniv?) at Lund University and are registered for full-time studies at Lund University (or have been granted an approved leave/studieuppeh?ll from your studies at Lund University)
  • are able to present a study plan for your intended stay at UC corresponding to full-time studies and where coursework can be transferred/part of a subsequent degree at Lund University
  • have sufficient proficiency in the relevant language of instruction
  • note that some faculties/departments at Lund University have additional eligibility requirements – contact your Lund University faculty/department.
